I’ve spent many a happy hour at brocantes and carboot sales riffling through boxes of postcards and imagining who the writer and recipient were; my favourites have faded sepia sweet nothings on the back…
The things we see and are in contact with so often should definitely be things that bring a little of their own joy. For some, that might of course well be the train ticket that commemorates a special journey or time.
I feel the same about my wedding ring, we had them made in Cornwall and they are deliberately a little organic rather than smooth. Hope both you and your Mum enjoy a peaceful weekend Matt x
What a gorgeous read Matt. The things we hold onto rarely have any financial value but would leave such a gaping hole were they to be misplaced or lost.
Thanks so much, Kirstie. And yes: so often the things that would be insignificant to everyone else that bring us the most pleasure. I can think only of my wedding ring for something I get so much visual and tactile pleasure from each day. Postcard and ring are daily connected too, as they are right now: I’m with Mum for the weekend, and reading in the chair as she sleeps. Away from home, but connected to all that I love. x

Ahhh, how beautiful. Sepia always feels sweeter!
Beautiful - I’m left with a feeling of digging out something rather more lovely to use as a bookmark now

Exciting to read these words and know there are others being penned in the background 💛✍️💛
Thanks, Barrie. 💛
A beautiful fragment, Matt.
