I’m also reading Still Life right now. So far, I’m only several pages in, but I love Sarah Winman’s work and I can’t wait to see where this story takes me.
There was a time when I was obsessed by Kieslowski movies. It’s been a few years since I’d thought about them. Thank you for ‘bringing them back’ to me. I should rewatch them in the upcoming week. Your writing’s so beautiful.
I love that you love Kieslowski too, Valentina. His largely unknown (outside of his homeland) early films are every bit as inspiring as the later famous ones, if a little rougher. I'm hoping to persuade Tilly to watch the Dekalog films with me next!
I watched the Kieslowski films at the time, twice maybe, but not since but thought about them the other day for no obvious reason and this may have nudged me into watching them really son. And so much yes about Blackstar and that track - I think it'll become seen as one of his very best
In the age of 1-hour box set instalments – if you haven't yet watched them and have the chance to – his Dekalog series of films are a great way to expand your Kieslowski repertoire. Made for Polish TV in 1989 and each one of the ten incredibly powerful. Bowie... I confess I'd never quite been fascinated by him before Blackstar. I loved that album so hard in those first few months and it allowed me to marvel better at what had gone before. On a similar note, I never did thank you for the nudge to watch the Wilko Johnson film: so very, very moving and life-affirming.

She writes beautifully and wears an obviously large amount of research very lightly. Characters you really fall for.

Thank you on all counts - I will go in search of the Dekalog series, and you are most welcome with the Wilko film - I loved everything about that.
